Fix Abiotic Factor Low FPS and Stuttering
You have already dropped your settings to Low, yet Abiotic Factor is still stuttering and your frame rate refuses to climb. It is incredibly frustrating when a game feels unplayable despite your hardware theoretically being capable of running it. This is usually caused by heavy rendering settings or DirectX 12 conflicts that do not play well with certain GPU drivers.
Why this happens
The game's default Global Illumination setting is extremely demanding, even on low presets. Additionally, conflicts between DirectX 12 and Windows Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling often cause frame pacing issues and micro-stutters.
Steps
-
01Open the in-game settings menu, navigate to Graphics, and set Global Illumination to Off to immediately reduce the rendering load on your GPU.
-
02If performance is still poor, close the game and open your Steam Library. Right-click Abiotic Factor, select Properties, and in the General tab, enter
-dx11into the Launch Options field to force the game to run on the more stable DirectX 11 API. -
03If the issue persists, right-click your desktop and select Display settings, then scroll down to Graphics and click Change default graphics settings.
-
04Toggle Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling to Off, then restart your computer to apply the system-wide change.
Still not working?
If you are still seeing stutters, check your GPU driver version and perform a clean install using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) if you recently updated. Also, monitor your temperatures during gameplay; if your CPU or GPU is thermal throttling, no amount of setting tweaks will stop the frame drops.
Frequently asked questions
Will using the -dx11 launch option hurt my game's visuals?
You might notice slight differences in lighting or effects compared to DirectX 12, but it is completely safe and reversible. If you want to switch back, simply delete the command from the launch options box.
Is it safe to turn off Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling?
Yes, turning this off is a common troubleshooting step for many modern games. It stops Windows from taking over some GPU management tasks, which often fixes stuttering without negatively impacting your overall PC performance.
