Outlook Email Stuck in Outbox — How to Fix 2026

You are staring at an email that refuses to leave your Outbox, likely because the send queue has jammed or you accidentally toggled offline mode. It is frustrating to have your work held hostage by a software glitch, but we can clear this queue in under a minute.

Why this happens: This happens because Outlook send Q gets jammed. Moving to drafts resets it.
What you need: No special tools needed, just your mouse and keyboard.

Fix Steps

1. Check the status bar at the bottom of the Outlook window to see if it says Working Offline.
2. If offline, click the Send/Receive tab at the top and click Work Offline to toggle it off.
3. If still stuck, close Outlook completely, then reopen it immediately.
4. Navigate to your Outbox folder on the left sidebar before it attempts to send again.
5. Right click the stuck email, select Move, then Other Folder, and choose Drafts.
6. Open the email from your Drafts folder and click Send.
7. If it fails again, verify your attachment is under 33 MB, or use a OneDrive link instead.
If that didn't work: If the email remains stuck, run Outlook in safe mode by typing outlook.exe /safe in your Start menu. If it sends successfully in safe mode, an installed add-in is blocking your connection and must be disabled under File, Options, Add-ins.
