OneDrive 0x8004de40 Sign-In Error — How to Fix 2026

You are staring at that OneDrive cloud icon with a line through it, and clicking sign-in feels like shouting into a void. Your computer has lost its handshake with Microsoft’s servers, usually because your system clock drifted or your network stack got scrambled.

Why this happens: If your clock was even 5 minutes off, that's what broke it; Microsoft servers reject the connection silently.
What you need: No special tools required, just administrator access to your PC.

Fix Steps

1. Click Start, type cmd, right-click it, and select Run as administrator.
2. Type netsh winsock reset and press Enter.
3. Type netsh int ip reset and press Enter.
4. Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.
5. Right-click your system clock in the bottom right corner and select Adjust date and time.
6. Click the Sync now button.
7. Restart your computer and check if the OneDrive icon in your system tray is clear.
If that didn't work: If the cloud icon is still crossed out, open OneDrive Settings, navigate to the Account tab, select Unlink this PC, and sign back in.
